That is the carcass of a baby seal. It has died from starvation after being rejected by its mother who had probably noted on its body a foreign smell which came from human contact.

Even though visitors may be allowed to come close to these animals in the wild, never touch the young ones or any one for the matter - because that is the tragic consequence which many foreigners do not take seriously.
