But where do you start? The world is so vast, that start with the country I know best, my own. But my country is so big that it will be better to start with my town. Although in reality, my city is huge. Principle will be better than my street. No, my home. No, for my family. No matter, I will start with myself.

Trekking between above 2500m to almost 3200m above sea level, moving fast is way too tough at that altitude unless you are a local who is used to the thin air.

for the love of a child
Saturday, December 12 | 9:25 PM

Yesterday she was a total wreck - the constant cries lasting for eternity, the tumbling back and forth with her minder to get sleep and frequently disrupting my view of the onboard movie - incidentally entitled Onboard Baby, then the poo and its accompanying array of smells during the makeover. Eventually, I put on my earpiece, gave up on the following horror movie and prayed for sleep to consume me.

This morning, I'm playing peekaboo with this little ball of energy. If the time comes with my own, I believe the joy with play would accompany the love with patient forbearance? Meanwhile, I'll just try to enjoy the former on my solitary journey.

undesirable
| 1:37 PM

Down with nausea (vommited 2x) overnight and just 2 days before the big Machu Pichu trek. I do not even want to put up the picture of myself looking absolutely drained. First signs of the undesirable AMS (Acute Mountain Poisoning)? My friend just jokingly insisted that it was Acute Internet Sickness (AIS) or poisoning as the night before I was on my netbook for hours... :P

outcast
Wednesday, December 9 | 10:19 PM

Knobbed knees bent like broken twigs and arms leaning forward on crutches, he stands lost and forlorn infront of a newstand. The stall owner fires in a tongue I cannot comprehend, her tentacle hands waving him away. The outcast remains. I ponder his place in a city moving at an unrelentless pace. There is more shouting. Finally I comprehend her angst. The cripple was oggling at porn magazines.

Mendoza, Argentina - It is a ghost town, almost that is, from 4 to 8pm. Save for some cops on patrol, shutters are down and miniature gates bolted. We had little hope of grabbing a decent late lunch during what the locals call SIESTA.

The Byrds

I discovered that I have this classic on one of the compilation CD I had bought long ago but never had time to listen to it and which I had ripped for this trip. Imagine my excitement when i heard it on one long and lonely bus trip in the night.

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

dangerous
Wednesday, December 2 | 4:44 PM

On our first night in Lima, Peru, we were warned by the driver who picked us up and the front desk person at the hostel we had put up at NOT to head out at night. If we really have to, we should not carry any watches, necklaces, cameras or anything that may draw attention to ourselves.

The next morning, I came across this advertisement unit whose glass cover was smashed.

I cannot read Spanish but given the image, I thought it was done so as part of the advertisement gimmick. But I believe I was wrong. If I was indeed right about the vandalism (and however ironic the picutre may be), the warnings against roaming late at night in Lima did remind me that I am no longer in almost crimeless Singapore.
