tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies...

Now that is a line from a song in the 80s. It just came to my mind as I embark on publishing this entry.
This is nothing new though. It has been with mankind since the dawn of ages. Some of us still continue to manipulate others through deceitful advertising.
This store is located near my workplace. It hails "Closing Down Sale" printouts all over its facade on its numerous shelves. They have been around since last year.
Two weekends ago, I was at an Audiohouse fair at Suntec City. I was eyeing one of the GPS unit at the Shinco booth - lured there by a gift voucher from a previous purchase. A very young salesman told me that with the purchase of all models on display for this fair only, the map updates are for life. Not a bad deal I thought. Vanity got the better of me and I ended up purchasing a higher end model to sync with my handphone.
After I'd taken the unit out from the box set, I realised that the waranty card did not come with a mail-back portion. I emailed the company but did not get a reply for 2 weeks. Just now, I called them up and causally asked them if the life-time map updates deal was for real. I was told that this comes with every purchase of a GPS unit by the company. The special deal at the fair only advertisement gimmick was just a whole load of crap.
