Remember Hiojin? The boy I had written about and who was bitten by his cousin's dog during the Chinese New Year period? He came to me last week still terrified of being even at an arm length's distance from Spirte, my Jack Russell.
So we made a pact to try to overcome his fear of dogs.
His body language - legs crossed and placed on the chair - is clear - he was still fearful of going near Sprite who is simply minding her own business on the floor.
After some encourgement, HioJin offered to to pat her on the head. Sprite yawned as if to say, "Surely I expect more than that from you!"
Being the ever friendly spirit that she is, she put her feet onto HioJin's chair in Oliver Twist manner, "I want...more?"
The boy was scared still. Throughout the lesson, Sprite would play the Abassador-To-All Friendly-Dogs occasionally to win HioJin over.

"Come play with me!"
Hiojin, of course, had work to do. In fact, we were working on draft 2 of the composition he wrote last week on the nasty dog bite incident.
At the end of the lesson, after a reward of a sweet and Sprite's numerous affectionate licks, HioJin was able to get off his chair and offer a more thorough rubdown to the canine.
He even agreed to carry Sprite for a picture! What a breakthrough!
