Puno

A 8-9 hr coach ride brought us into the town of Puno. Situated even higher (spell COLDER too!) than Cusco at more than 3500m above sea level, Puno is a touch and go business, for me that is. The remaining girls have gone out for a walk around town before we leave for Bolivia in less than 2 hrs´time. Today being SUn, alomst every shop is closed and the streets deserted so I thought of giving the walk a miss just to compose this update.
Anyway, Puno. Where´we´re staying, a dogey hotel sits on the outskirts of the local square and a stretch of very touristy street where the major banks are also located. HAving seen a few towns in Peru, they are now beginning to look the same. The heart, vibrant at night with touristis and even the locals, while the fringes look pathetic with their half dusty completed buildings - think wire structures worshipping the skies and weathered bricks fronting every shophouse. We´d walked to the bus terminal after yesterday´s day trip to the islands and man, it feels like being lost in some PC game espousing the end times. But the occasional sightings of young couples taking walks and some making out (in the freezing cold!) at shelters scattered along the lonely stretch, gave it a more human feel.Labels: S USA, travel
